Today
For the last several years, I have been focused on the incredible opportunities afforded by virtual learning. The one positive of Covid is that virtual education is finally losing some of the fear-based stigma it has carried for so long. It is not for everyone, but the ones who thrive in a virtual setting deserve much higher standards in use of technology, and in evidence based practices. I have been developing quests, er I mean...curriculum in 2D, 3D, AR, and VR for wildly immersive and interactive education and wholly cognitive learning (no worksheets, no visible old-school educating going on here). From Language and Mathematical Literacy to corporate concept mastery based on the standards of the most successful education programs in the world, I am passionate about re-engaging our epic youth and our amazing adults in the value of education. I can empower anyone to harness the benefits of learning - developing an intense investment in their own legendary quest for knowledge.

I have created interactive Digital Multitouch books (ebooks) and designed Apps to supplement the original texts. I have also re-vamped John F. Lawhon's sales education systems and am beginning to implement that training in retail companies across the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. Seminars begin later this year, and I am coding the Apps and finishing up the Anniversary Edition of Furniture Facts now! Taking People Beyond "Normal"
I have been working virtually with individuals who initially feel less-than and leave knowing they are beyond exceptional. They may be neurodivergent, a child star athlete, or an adult learning math. They may be on the autism spectrum, have an extremely high IQ, or an extraordinary gift. They may have been brutally cyber-bullied and pulled out of school, or be below average in everything--exhausted and shut down from being bombarded with their "weaknesses." My programs for literacy for students above grade 1 who cannot yet read fluently, and my math programs for the "not-a-math-person" have 100% success rates. All of the amazing humans who've "graduated" with me have gone on to colleges like Baylor, SMU, & Stanford, and are thriving. The adults go on to be highly successful professionals in their chosen field, and my BE program graduates, in the Business of Selling© . All this is online and has been since 2012 because this is the least stressful, most assured way to get humans out of lizard brain so they can learn. Think of it as the ultimate "screensaver" ;)

In late 2009, I took the road less traveled and branched out into the world of independent education. I primarily create experiences which integrate learning and practical application in a way that doesn't feel like old school "learning." Enveloping cognitive development for any realm in worlds that remove people from the fears and trauma associated with the "classroom". This takes the form of developing gamified or game immersive experiences for companies, workshops, and PK-12 "Homeschool" (aka 100% individualized curriculum when traditional school is too much or too little). Storyarc college preparatory programs, career choices and changes curriculum, and demystifying exams (or better yet, creating interwoven invisible assessments).

It took me too far away from my students, however, so now I am a life-teacher-coach-educator on how to remove your doubts, and find your passion, purpose, & power. Yes, I still work with adults too!

Finally I was brave enough to follow my forever dream of being an educator, got my Masters in one year (brain based learning emphasis, with CLAD Credential K-9), and taught at the top school in the nation for language-based learning differences, then 2001's "Best of the Best" US School based on Integrated Thematic Instruction. Of course I also student taught the Rainbow unit to first graders, Creative Writing unit to 8th graders, Tessellations unit to 5th Graders, and chaperoned the 5th Grade Yosemite week long camping field trip. What I learned: I don't do well with first graders because my BA in English is inexplicably insignificant to them.

I founded my school in late 2009 thanks to the generous guidance and contributions of the Walton Family. This school was founded on the basis that every student should learn in his or her own way and about his or her own passions. And, every student can be a star in any area they choose. Mira Academy developed a way to meet State Standards for Educational Objectives (a LOT of stuff to know) and create original, fascinating, expansive curriculum based on student strengths and interests.

Yes. Peace loving me didn't realize Boeing wasn't all commercial aircraft. I was the Integrated Defense Systems Supplier Management & Procurement corporate trainer for NASA & Rotorcraft. I transitioned into Lean Manufacturing, Team-Based Business, & Employee Engagement(Productivity). Here, I tripled my teacher's salary in one day, and learned the goal of all education is to prepare students to design, create, engineer, manage, establish businesses, lead, excel in their strengths, and to value teams & diversity (as these are the key to raising productivity), because the corporate world can only succeed to the extent that it is driven by exceptional individuals.

Incidentally, I did do a lot of stuff before all this, and in the middle of it, you know, like developing Assessments to quantify students' learning styles, selling retail, writing Hemingway spoofs like "A Way it Would Be Pretty Not to Be" for the Bad Hemingway Contest, editing epic novels, leveling up my World of Warcraft Tauren Druid [healing spec of course] to 95, animal rescue, having my poetry published, horse whispering, swim coaching, learning guitar, Graphic Design & Animation, I am known to frequent Renaissance Faires as Gabrielle from Xena Warrior Princess (yes I made my own costumes), TV News Production and writing, learning to code in html etc, website design, published 2 children's ebooks, OH and I joined the Knitwits and learned to knit. Yes, my square potholder was more in the shape of a stingray, so I just learned to knit a cord, made it a tail, and sewed in googly eyes!
